OHA Junior A Hockey Has Returned to Niagara!

After 52 years as a Junior B team, the Niagara Falls Canucks recently applied and were approved for reclassification to Junior A.  They have joined the OJHL, known as the “League of Choice”, generating dozens of NCAA, U SPORTS, CHL and professional commitments on an annual basis.  Not since the Niagara Falls Flyers joined the OHL in 1980 has OHA Junior A hockey been played in Niagara!

Fridays at 7 p.m. at the Gale Centre!

The Canucks are one of the most respected, stable and storied franchises in the OHA.  Their alumni include two Stanley Cup winners, Frank Pietrangelo, who played for the Canucks in 1979-1980 and won a Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991, and Gilbert Dionne, who played for the Canucks from 1986-1988 and won a Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens in 1993.  Several others have made NHL appearances or had NHL careers.

The Canucks play and practice in the 2,170 seat Rink 1 of the Gale Centre in Niagara Falls.  The building is barrier-free and fully accessible, with 4 NHL-sized ice surfaces, a full-service concession with bar, a pro shop with skate sharpening and a state-of-the-art sound system, that’s minutes from the world-famous Niagara Falls.  It’s no “wonder” the Canucks attract the best Junior hockey players, including two NCAA Division I commits in only their first three months as a Junior A franchise!
